Men’s Tennis Defeats Kalamazoo in NCAA Second Round Action

May 3 – (GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s tennis team competed in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships Saturday, May 3. The Tartans advanced to the finals of the Regional with a 5-2 victory over Kalamazoo College. The win moves the Tartans dual record to 19-7, as Kalamazoo ends their season at 14-9.

James Muliawan (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and sophomore
Nikola Ljuboja (Highland Park, Ill.) were down match point before rallying back to take a 9-7 decision over Jason Brown and Tim Hubbard of Kalamazoo. The win gave the Cardinal and Gray a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Carnegie Mellon tallied wins at second, third and fourth singles to come away with a 5-2 victory and a trip to the round of 16. Muliawan defeated Cyrus Jadun 6-1, 6-4, freshman
Alex Nemerov (Lake Forest, Ill.) won 6-1, 6-1 over Matt Wise and sophomore
Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hubbard.
Carnegie Mellon will face the winner of Kenyon / Ohio Northern Sunday, May 4 in the Regional Final at 1:00 p.m.
