Men’s Tennis Eliminated from ITA Regionals

Sept. 30 – (FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Carnegie Mellon University had three players compete in the winners bracket of the ITA Southeast Regional Men's Tennis Championships on Sunday, September 30.
Freshman Alex Nemerov (Lake Forest, Ill.) was the only member to win a match for the day as he defeated Swarthmore’s Matt Nicholson 7-6(2), 6-3 in the round of 16. Nicholson was seeded fifth. Nemerov then fell in the quarterfinals to second seeded David Maldow of Johns Hopkins 6-3, 6-2.
Nemerov also competed in the quarterfinals of doubles with junior Yiran Liu (Rockville, Md./Wootton) and fell to Randy Loden and Kaz Murata of Mary Washington 8-6.
Sophomore Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) nearly defeated the one seed of John James from the University of Mary Washington. He lost the first set 6-3 before winning the second 6-4 and falling in the third 7-5.
