Men's Tennis Ranked #14 in Nation; Third in Atlantic South Region
Dec. 11 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon men’s tennis team garnered their highest national team ranking in the program's history when the 2006-2007 rankings were announced. The Tartans are ranked 14th in the nation and third in the Atlantic South Region. Last season the men’s program reached 22nd. The top seven teams in the region when year-end regional rankings are announced qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Individually, freshmen Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) and James Muliawan (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) rank in the top ten of the region with a ranking of six and eight, respectively. Sophomore Yiran Liu (Rockville, Md./Wootton) is 18th, while junior Andrew Clearfield (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna) tops out the Tartans singles rankings at 19th regionally.
Freshmen duo Muliawan and Nikola Ljuboja (Highland Park, Ill.) rank seventh nationally in doubles and second in the region. The pair placed seventh at the ITA National Small College Championships this past fall. Senior Jordan Koslosky (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and teammate, freshman Ravi Raghavan (Saratoga, Calif.), are ranked 12th in the region.
Carnegie Mellon will open their spring season February 3, as they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to face the Lakers of Mercyhurst College, a Division II program.
