Men’s Tennis Lands Three on All-UAA Team
May 3 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s tennis team had three members named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team, as announced Wednesday, May 3. Freshman Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) was named at third singles and the doubles tandem of junior Andrew Clearfield (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna) and freshman James Muliawan (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) were honored at second doubles. The selections were voted on by the tennis coaches of the Association.
Spero ended the season with a 24-5 overall mark and a 3-0 UAA record in singles competition. Spero was 6-2 against nationally ranked opponents at third singles and finished the year winning his last eleven matches.
The duo of Clearfield and Muliawan had a mark of 2-1 at the UAA Championships including an 8-3 victory over the doubles team of Washington University (Mo.) the ninth-ranked team in the country.
