Apr. 15- (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The men's tennis team of Carnegie Mellon University fell 4-3 in a tight match to #20 Washington (Md.) College on Saturday, April 15 in an afternoon showdown. The Tartans gave a fight during singles action hoping to win four matches after dropping the doubles point, but came up one match short. Carnegie Mellon drops to 3-10 in dual meets for the year, while Washington improves to 14-3.

Sophomore Andrew Clearfield (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna), senior Carl Yang (Plano, Texas/Plano West) and junior Jordan Koslosky (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) each won their respective singles matches earning the three points for Carnegie Mellon.

Clearfield beat Tim Riskie by a 6-0, 6-1 score, with his only game lost coming at the start of the second set. A key to Clearfield’s dominance was keeping his shots in play. "I was consistent today with all of my shots, I didn't hit many out. I moved around a lot using all points of the court with my forehand being my strongest shot."

Despite falling behind 5-0 in the first set at number five singles, Koslosky used it to prepare for his second and third set, eventually winning 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. "After falling behind I tried to change things up to find another way to play the next set. Looking for my opponent's weaknesses and exploiting them was a key and then to play consistent and keep the ball in play."

Yang won the last match of the day at number four singles with a tough 6-3, 6-2 victory. "The match was closer than the score represents. I tried to stay consistent and grind out my opponent and stay mentally tough. I think I was able to do that. There was wind early in the match which made it hard to be aggressive. Once I adjusted, I decided to stay back and play more from the baseline."

The Tartans will be in action again Sunday, April 16 when they host Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 p.m.
