Men’s Swimming and Diving Conclude First Day of UAA Championships

Feb. 21 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s swimming and diving team swam at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Thursday, February 21, held at the University of Rochester.
Sophomore diver
Matt Kuhn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed second in the three-meter board event with a score of 430.90, while fellow sophomore
Joe Kopko (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed fourth.
Senior
Patrick Snyder (Marlton, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) had a third place showing in the 50-yard freestyle finals after setting a personal-best in the preliminaries with a NCAA provisional mark of 21.12. In the finals Snyder touched the wall in 21.31.
Junior
Tom McConnell (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) set a career-best mark in the 500-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 4:40.32 to find a spot the finals. During the evening session McConnell improved his time placing fifth after touching the wall in 4:39.0.
The Tartans 200-yard freestyle relay team swam their top time of the season of 125.21 finishing in fourth place. The 400-yard medley relay team placed sixth in the final event of the evening with a time of 3:30.09.
The meet continues with preliminary events in the morning of Friday, February 22 with finals to follow in the evening.
