Tartans Make Showing at Longnecker Invitational

Dec. 1 - (GROVE CITY, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are looking to repeat as the champions at the Longnecker Invitational held by Grove City College. After the first day of competition the men hold the top spot by 29 points, while the women sit 49 points behind Washington & Jefferson College.

The men’s team won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:31.40. Freshman Reece Dukes (Houston, Texas/James E. Taylor), Andrew Seo (Irvine, Calif./Northwood), senior David Krzeminski (Grandville, Mich.), and sophomore Ron Papa (Malabon City, Philippines/Cranbrook Kingswood) made up the winning combination. Seo and Andrew Weitz (Flourtown, Pa./Germantown Academy), both freshman, went one-two in the 200-yard IM. Seo completed the race in 1:59.63 with Weitz right on his tail just .13 seconds behind.

On the diving board, freshman Matt Kuhn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed third in the three-meter with 187.75 points.

Sophomore Alex DeFazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) won the one-meter diving event with 223.75 points and senior Jenny Sieger (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) came in second in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 24.48 provisionally qualified her for the NCAA meet.
