Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat Grove City

Nov. 11 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon men’s and women’s swimming and diving team hosted Grove City College this Saturday, November 11 in their fourth meet of the season. The men’s team won with a final score of 168-128 as did the women’s 178-94.

Throughout the meet there were some great swims by many team members with 67 top times and scores combined from both teams saturday. Sophomore diver Charlotte Jennings (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) received an NCAA B-cut in the 1 meter diving even with a score of 247.30. Senior Dave Krzeminski (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) received an NCAA B-cut in the 100 butterfly event with a time of 51.03.

The men’s team swam great against a good Grove City team that featured the defending national champion in the 100 free, Caleb Courage. The men’s team depth was highlighted once again this weekend with the team sweeping the 100 and 200 backstroke events, placing first, second and fourth in the 200 butterfly, and first, third and fourth in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 100 butterfly. Freshmen John Johnson (Allentown, Pa./Allentown) and Reece Dukes (Houston, Texas/James E. Taylor) continued to dominate the backstroke events winning the 100 and 200 backstroke events respectively with times of 54.36 and 1:58.42. Freshman Andrew Seo (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) won the 100 (1:00.08) and 200 (2:11.20) breaststroke events. With this weekend’s win the men’s team moved to 2-0 for dual meets this season.

The women’s team held control of the meet from the first event to the final. There were many strong finishes from the women. From the junior class, Lauren Connell (Hasbrouck Hts., N.J./Hasbrouck Hts.) won the 200 freestyle (1:59.87) and Anna Kochalko (Encinitas, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) won the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke with times of 2:14.90 and 2:35.28. Sophomore Allison Retotar (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills) won the 100 back (1:05.98) and sophomore Colleen Murphy (Aberdeen, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) won the 200 backstroke (2:19.98). Overall it was an impressive weekend from the women’s team as they moved their dual meet record to 1-1.

Next weekend the men’s and women’s team will head to Franklin & Marshall College for a double dual meet with Franklin & Marshall and Washington & Lee University.
