Tartans Open Season With 3-1 Victory

Sept. 5 – (WASHINGTON, Pa.) – Sophomore forward Ricky Griffin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) started the scoring in the 18th minute and finished with two goals and an assist in Carnegie Mellon University's season opening victory against Washington & Jefferson College.

Sophomore forward Patrick Lutz (Lebanon, Pa./Lancaster) assisted on Griffin's goal and then scored what would be the game winner about 12 minutes later off assists from Griffin and sophomore midfielder Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson).

Washington & Jefferson would get on the board when Zach Williams beat junior goalkeeper Matt Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) off a corner kick by Jeremy Delmaster in the 48th minute.

The scoring ending in the 53rd minute win Griffin received a pass from junior midfielder Dan Brackley (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and beat two defenders to put his second goal past W&J's keeper, Tyler Hodgins.

The Tartans open their home season with a game versus Westminster College on Saturday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. Carnegie Mellon defeated the Titans twice last season by 2-0 and 3-0 scores.
