Tartans Fall to Rochester on the Road

Oct. 12 – (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – It took 70 minutes before the University of Rochester got on the board against Carnegie Mellon University in men's soccer action but the goal proved to be the difference in a game the Tartans had more opportunities but couldn't finish in a 2-0 loss Friday night. The Tartans are now 7-2-1 and 0-2-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play, while Rochester improves to 9-2-1 and 3-0.
Carnegie Mellon had five shots on goal compaired to the two Rochester was able to finish. One of the Tartans best chances came when sophomore Ricky Griffin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) played a diagonal ball from the left to fellow sophomore Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) whose low blast was saved by Rochester goalie Michael Peacock in the 58th minute.
During a two-minute span (68:03-70:08), the Tartans put heavy pressure on the Yellowjackets when three shots were blocked by the defense and sophomore forward Patrick Lutz's (Lebanon, Pa./Lancaster) shot was saved by Peacock who came off his line cutting the angle.
As a result, the Yellowjackets were able to counter with a breakaway and JJ Dennstedt fed Sean Hantes for his fifth goal of the year at 70:18. Steve Welles then increased the Yellowjacket advantage at 71:31 off another assist by Dennstedt.
Peacock made five saves for the game while junior keeper Matt Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) did not face any other shots on goal.
Carnegie Mellon continues their weekend of UAA play with a road contest at #7 Case Western Reserve University. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14.
