Stats

Oct. 22 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The host Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer team pressured Point Park University’s defense all game, and came away with a 4-0 victory on Monday, October 21, capping off an undefeated non-conference schedule for the Tartans.

Carnegie Mellon (9-3-1) got in the scoring column early thanks to a goal by freshman midfielder Adam Bogus (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) in the fourth minute of the game. Junior forward Dan Brackley (Hamilton, N.J./Steinart) crossed the ball into the box from the left side and Bogus one-timed the cross into the net past Point Park junior goalkeeper Steve Fabian. The score stayed at 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.

The Tartans wasted no time adding to their lead after halftime when Brackley scored 42 seconds into the half. Sophomore forward Ricky Griffin’s (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) cross from the left side found Brackley moving toward the far post where he was able to one-time the ball into the goal.

Griffin scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 61st minute when he redirected a shot from freshman midfielder Max Betzig (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Greenhills) with his head.

Sophomore Keith Haselhoff (McKeesport, Pa.) scored his first career goal in the 90th minute when he went up to play a long lob from sophomore midfielder Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) following a free kick. Haselhoff out-jumped Point Park sophomore goalkeeper Rick Mader and headed the ball into the net to make it 4-0.

The Tartans took 21 shots compared to Point Park’s five. Junior goalkeeper Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) recorded the shutout while making four saves. Fabian stopped four shots for the Pioneers (4-12).
