Men’s Soccer’s Comeback Falls Short Against NYU

Oct. 26 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s soccer team dug themselves a hole early, giving up two early goals, en route to losing 2-1 to the #16 ranked New York University Violets on a cool overcast Friday, October 26 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The host Tartans drop to 9-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the UAA while NYU improves to 12-3-1 overall and 3-2.
NYU cashed in on two early corner kicks from midfielder Matthew Ramirez. In the tenth minute sophomore midfielder Christopher Wolf headed the corner kick into the net past Tartans junior goalkeeper
Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton). Four minutes later NYU senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer headed in Ramirez’s corner for his team leading 14th goal of the season.
Carnegie Mellon fought back with a goal in the 75th minute off the foot of senior midfielder
Christopher Watts (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler). Watts received a pass from sophomore forward
Ricky Griffin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and blasted it into the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.
NYU junior goalkeeper Chris Wright stopped four shots while Bazin registered four saves in the loss. NYU took 11 shots and Carnegie Mellon had eight.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s soccer team returns to action on Sunday, October 28 in their final regular season home game. They host Brandeis University with the game scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m. at Gesling Stadium.
