The Tartans nearly extended their lead in the 59th minute when sophomore defender David Drochner’s (Mt. Zion, Ill.) header off freshman midfielder Max Betzig’s (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Greenhills) corner kick was stopped by the arm of lunging Mount Union senior goalkeeper Matt Mazzolini.

In the 67th minute, Tartan junior goalkeeper Matt Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) kept the shutout intact with a save on a shot by Steve Gillespie.

Sophomore midfielder Jonathan Hall (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) cushioned the lead for the Tartans with a header for goal at the 87:59 mark. Hall deflected a header by junior midfielder Al Penksa (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort).

Just 46 seconds later, Griffin put his fifth goal of the season away as he slipped a shot passed Mazzolini after sophomore Keith Haselhoff (McKeesport, Pa.) beat a defender and put a shot off the post.

Bazin made three saves and recorded his second shutout of the season and 21st of his career moving him into fourth on the Tartans all-time shutout list ahead of Sam Montague (’86).
