Tartans Prevail 3-2 at Juniata

Sept. 15 – (HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – A goal with under ten minutes to play gave Carnegie Mellon University a 3-2 win over Juniata College in men's soccer action on Saturday, September 15 at Juniata. Sophomore forward Patrick Lutz (Lebanon, Pa./Lancaster) found the net with the deciding goal giving the Tartans a 3-0 start to the season while Juniata falls to 1-5.

Sophomore forward Ricky Griffin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) opened the scoring early with an unassisted goal in the fifth minute.

Juniata equalized with a strike from the penalty spot in the 40th minute by Andrew Steffen. The continued their momentum in the second half with a go ahead goal in the 59th minute by Matt Wren off an assist by Aaron Bray.

The Tartans didn't let up though, scoring the tying goal when sophomore midfielder Ryan Browne's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) free kick found the back of the net just five minutes after Wren gave Juniata the goal advantage.

Griffin was in the action again as he slid and touched a pass to Lutz on the left side of the penalty box for the Tartans game-winning goal.  

Junior goalie Matt Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) earned the win recording one save in 90 minutes. 

Carnegie Mellon returns home to face Penn State Altoona in a 7:30 p.m contest on Wednesday, September 19 in Gesling Stadium.
