Hall, Griffin Named Academic All-Region
Nov. 1 – (DELAWARE, Ohio) – A pair of Carnegie Mellon University sophomore men’s soccer players, midfielder
Jonathan Hall (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and forward
Ricky Griffin (Hastings, N.Y.), earned academic honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition. The official sponsor is ESPN the Magazine.
Hall was the only non-senior to earn First Team All-Region District II honors, while Griffin was voted to the Second Team. District II is comprised of non-NCAA Division I Colleges in the states of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. In order to be nominated a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and hold a 3.2 GPA or better.
As a midfielder Hall has scored five goals, including two game-winners. He has two multi-goal games and put away the winning goal in overtime against LaRoche, a game in which he accounted for both goals. Hall received All-UAA accolades his freshman season and has started every game of his career moving between the defense and midfield.
Off the field Hall serves on the Business Opportunities Conference Committee, Tepper Undergraduate Business Advisory Council and Student Athlete Advisory Council. He has twice been a Corporate Finance Case Competition Champion and was the Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship Finalist.
Griffin is the Tartans leading scorer with 11 goals and five assists. He has three multi-goal games and two game-winners. Along with Hall, Griffin has started every game of his career.
Because Hall earned first team honors, he will be placed on the national ballot with the chance to be named to the ESPN the Magazine All-American Team.
