Men’s Soccer defeats Chicago 1-0 in UAA Opener

Sept. 30 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s soccer team traveled to Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, September 30 and came away with a 1–0 victory over the Maroons of the University of Chicago in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both squads. The win marked the Tartans second straight and upped their record to 7-2 (1-0), as the Maroons fall to 5-3-1 (0-1).
After a scoreless first half in which the Tartans held a five to three shot advantage, Carnegie Mellon scored one of their biggest goals of the season. Senior forward Jonathan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) scored his second goal of the season and what proved to be the game’s only goal in the 53rd minute.
The Tartan defense and sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) stood up to the numerous offensive attacks mounted by the Maroons to preserve the one-goal victory. Bazin collected four saves and Maroon goalie Keith Crum stopped three shots in the loss.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, October 5 when they host Point Park at 7:30 p.m.
