Browne Brothers lead Carnegie Mellon Men's Soccer to 2-0 Victory

Oct. 13 - (WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Browne brothers, senior forward Jonathan and freshman Ryan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), led the Carnegie Mellon men's soccer team to their fifth straight victory Friday, October 13, as they defeated the Judges of Brandeis 2-0. The University Athletic Association (UAA) contest was held at Gordon Field in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Tartans improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in UAA action, while the Judges fall to 5-5-3 overall, 0-3 in the UAA.

Ryan gave the Tartans a 1-0 lead heading into the break off a one-time shot from brother Jonathan. The younger Browne's fourth goal of the season came just 1:27 into play, proving to be the game-winner.

The older Browne secured the victory scoring his team leading fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute. The senior's goal came on a corner kick by senior midfielder Sean Filipovitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit). Senior Will Schlough (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) headed it to Browne, who headed it past Brandeis freshman keeper Taylor Bracken, as the Tartans took the 2-0 lead.

Tartan sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) recorded four saves and Bracken had five.

The Tartans will travel to New York University to square off against the NYU Violets on Sunday, October 15 at 1:30 pm.
