Penn State Altoona Takes First Game from Tartans

Sept. 19 - (ALTOONA, Pa.) – After moving up to #13 in the national poll by NSCAA, the Carnegie Mellon men's soccer team fell for the first time this season by a 2-1 score to host Penn State Altoona, Tuesday, September 19. The Tartans drop to 5-1 on the year, while Altoona improves to 4-1-2 on the year.
Carnegie Mellon took the lead towards the end of the first period in the 44th minute when senior forward Will Schlough (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) connected for his fourth goal of the season. Senior forward Sean Filipovitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) was credited with the assist.
Corey Sutler scored the equalizer at 66:03 and the Lions put home the game-winner at 82:51 following a corner kick.
Sophomore keeper Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) recorded five saves in his first loss of the year. Jon Martin stopped three shots for the home team.
The Tartans stay on the road as they travel to Mt. Union on Saturday, September 23 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match-up.
