Carnegie Mellon Blanks Washington & Jefferson in Men’s Soccer

Sept. 14 - (WASHINGTON, Pa.) Junior forward Jonathan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute to give Carnegie Mellon its third-straight victory after defeating Washington & Jefferson, 1-0, in men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

Browne scored the game winner for the Tartans (3-0), who out-shot the Presidents by a 19-6 margin, after receiving passes from junior midfielder William Schlough (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and freshman forward Daniel Brackley (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert).

Freshman goalie Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton) made three second-half saves to earn his third consecutive shutout. W&J freshman goalkeeper Tyler Hodgins totaled a career-high 12 saves in defeat.

The Tartans return home to face Juniata College Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Gesling Stadium.
