Tartans Run Win Streak to Seven
Stats
Oct. 28 - (CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The #19 Carnegie Mellon's men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory in their first road game since October 8 at Washington University, against host Case Western Reserve University Friday, October 28. The Tartans improve to 12-1-1 on the year and 4-1 in University Athletic Association play, while the Spartans drop to 8-7-2 and 1-3-1.
Junior forward Jonathan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) put the Tartans on the board early in the first half with a breakaway goal in the 18th minute. Browne was assisted by freshman midfielder Daniel Brackley (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert).
Case Western quickly killed the Tartans momentum with a tying goal just six minutes later. RJ French scored only the third goal all season against Carnegie Mellon freshman keeper Matthew Bazin (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Delbarton), with a header off a free kick by Jarrod Predina.
The Tartans had the opportunity to go ahead just one minute into the second half, but junior midfielder Sean Filipovitz's (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) penalty shot was saved by Case Western's Chad Skidmore.
Filipovitz would later make up for his miscue with the game-winner in the 80th minute of play. Filipovitz collected the rebound of a corner kick and found the back of the net from 20 yards out.
Carnegie Mellon outshot Case Western 6-2 with shots on goal and earned six corner kicks to the Spartans three.
Bazin finished with one save for the game, while Skidmore totaled four.
The Tartans continue their season-ending road trip with a visit to the #3 University of Rochester, Sunday, October 30 for a 12:00 p.m. game.
