Golf Places 2nd at Westminster Invitational

Oct. 1 – (NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the 2007 Westminster Fall Invitational hosted at the New Castle Country Club.  After winning the invitational the past two seasons, the Tartans placed second in a field of 11 teams behind Division II foe, Clarion University. The Tartans fired a team score of 307, while Clarion was three strokes better carding a 304.

Junior Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) was in his prime once again, as he carded his third straight round under par. Timmons claimed individual medalist honors after shooting a two under 70.   The Tartans junior Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) tallied his first top ten finish this season placing tied for fifth with a 77.

Last year’s individual champion, sophomore Chris Lee (Los Angeles, Calf./Windward), carded a 79 placing 12th, while senior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) placed in a tie for 14th firing an 81. Also playing in the group of five, was senior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) who carded an 82 tying for 17th.

There were four individuals that entered the invitational for the Tartans. Senior Denver Faulk (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) shot an 82 tying for 17th, while sophomore Adam Klein (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and freshman Brent Driscoll (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) scored an 83 and 85, respectively.  Sophomore Nick Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) placed tied for 50th after carding an 94 in a field of 67 golfers.
