Golf Places 2nd at the 2007 Lamkin Fall Intercollegiate

Sept. 18 – (DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the two-round Lamkin Fall Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday, September 18 at Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio. The Tartans opened their campaign with a second place showing tying with Washington & Jefferson after firing a two-round team total of 605 (307-298).
Host Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a 36-hole total of 576 with the Tartans and Presidents behind the host. Franklin (610) placed fourth followed by Denison (612), Heidelberg (627), Ohio Northern and Wittenberg (628), Wilmington (629), Muskingum (630) and Capital (637).
Leading the way for the Tartans on the par 71 course was junior Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) who carded rounds of 74 and 69 to finish at 143, one over par for the tournament, placing tied for third place individually. Timmons’ second round score of 69 was a collegiate best.
Junior Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) fired a 152 (76-76) tying for 17th, while senior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) was one shot behind Chen with a 153 (78-75) placing him in a tie for 22nd. Senior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) tied for 45th place with a 157 (79-78) and sophomore Adam Klein (Bethesda, Md. Walt Whitman) tied for 47th place with a 158 out of a field of 81 golfers.
The Tartans will hit the links October 1, as they compete at the Westminster Invitational at the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa. The Tartans will set out to defend their team championship for the second year.
