Golf Places 7th at Guy W. Kuhn Invitational

Sept. 25 – (MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the 2007 Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted at The Country Club of Meadville by Allegheny College. The Tartans placed seventh of fourteen teams after firing a team score of 314 Tuesday, September 25.
Washington & Jefferson topped Allegheny by one stroke carding a 293 to the Gators 294, followed by St. Vincent’s 295, Allegheny’s “B” team and IUP with a 303. John Carroll finished in sixth place with a 305 then the Tartans (314), Westminster (318), Penn State Altoona (322), Slippery Rock (326), Penn State Behrend (331), Grove City (355), Edinboro (357) and Westminster “B” (361).
For the second straight outing, junior
Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) led the way for the Tartans carding a two under par 70, placing tied for third place. In three rounds this season Timmons has recorded two rounds under par.
Senior
Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) placed in a tie for 30th firing a 79, while junior
Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) shot a 82 tying for 40th. Senior
Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) tied for 47th place carding one stroke behind Chen with an 83. Rounding out the field for the Tartans was senior
Denver Faulk (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) shooting an 86 for a tie in 56th.
The Tartans will hit the links October 1, as they compete at the Westminster Invitational at the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa. The Tartans will set out to defend their team championship for the second year.
