Golf Wins Edward Jones Shootout

Apr. 20 – (APOLLO, Pa.) – At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 20, the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team shot a season-low round of 289 to place first at the annual Tournament finishing the tournament with a team score of 596.  The two round event was held at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa.  The Tartans swept the top three individual places and claimed four of the top five spots.

Junior Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) and sophomore Chris Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) of the Cardinal Gray both shot a two round total of 148, but Chen claim the individual championship in the tiebreaking procdure.  Both shot identical rounds of 77 and 71.    

Senior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) improved seven strokes following day one to card a 71 Sunday placing third.  Junior Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) placed tied for fourth place with a 151 (75-76), but following the tiebreaker, the junior claimed the fifth medalist spot.

Senior Denver Faulk (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) rounded out the scoring for the Tartans placing twenty-third with a two round total of 166.

Carnegie Mellon individual golfers that entered the Shootout were; Sophomore Nick Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) (77-81), sophomore Adam Klein (Bethesda, Md. Walt Whitman) (80-94), freshman Brent Driscoll (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) (81-82), sophomore Brett Cannaday (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) (82-82) and senior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) (87-81).
