Golf in 2nd Place after Opening Round of Edward Jones Shootout

Apr. 19 – (APOLLO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 19 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. Following the first round the Tartans are in second place after they fired a team score of 307.
Washington and Jefferson’s senior Mike Grasso leads the individual play after Saturday’s round shooting a 73. Grasso’s low round helped the Presidents’ shoot a team low 303 following day one.
Junior
Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) led the Tartans firing a five over par 75 placing him second following the first day of competition. Sophomore
Chris Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) and junior
Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) each fired a 77, respectively. Senior
Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) carded a 78, while senior
Denver Faulk (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) shot an 83.
There were five individuals that entered the invitational for the Tartans. Sophomore
Nick Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) led the individual players for the Cardinal and Gray firing a 77. Sophomore
Adam Klein (Bethesda, Md. Walt Whitman) carded an 80, freshman
Brent Driscoll (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) shot and 81. Sophomore
Brett Cannaday (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) carded an 82 and senior
Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) shot an 87.
Round two continues Sunday, April 20 with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m.
