Executive Director of the United States Golf Association (USGA) Visits Carnegie Mellon
Feb. 20 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – David Fay, the Executive Director of the United States Golf Association, spoke to several members and coaches of the Carnegie Mellon University golf team Wednesday afternoon, as a part of Professor Steven Schlossman's "The Rise in Modern Golf: 1860 to the Present" class.
Fay talked about numerous golf-related themes which included the USGA's role in golf, topics regarding past and future U.S. Opens, and several professional and amateur golf issues.
Fay began his career with the USGA in 1978 as a tournament relations manager. In 1989, he was promoted to his current position of USGA's Executive Director. Under Fay's leadership, the USGA has seen dramatic increases in revenues and attendance at its championships, as well as a large increase in the total number of golfers in the United States. Perhaps Fay's greatest legacy with the USGA was being responsible for bringing the 2002 U.S. Open to The Black Course at Bethpage State Park in New York, the first truly accessible public golf course to ever host a U.S. Open.
