Erdelyi Featured in NCAA Podcast
June 16 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Recent Carnegie Mellon University graduate, Howard Smith, sat down with head golf and assistant football coach Rich Erdelyi as part of an interview for the NCAA's New Media group. Smith was a member of the golf team and was a two-time All-UAA player and two-time Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. After graduation, Howard accepted a position at the NCAA office in Indianapolis.
During the interview Erdelyi discussed various issues, including his stance on academics, the University Athletic Association, the football program's success, and his relationship with his former player, Dan Marino. The podcast is posted under the Campus Connection portion of Double-A Zone, the official blog of the NCAA.
While playing golf for Carnegie Mellon, Howard was a business major who doubled as the Tartans play-by-play broadcaster for football and basketball games. It was his background in radio that helped Smith land the job with New Media. As his career moves forward, the scholar-athlete will help with all communication mediums (Double-A Zone blog, podcasts, videos, etc.) and take over writing the Morning Coffee, which is a daily collection of college sports stories posted on the blog. Smith looks forward to working on Weekly NCAA News Direct, an email which describes the most important college sports topics of the week and creating original content that promotes student-athletes and NCAA member-institutions for the NCAA's websites.
