Golf In Third Place at UAA’s After Day One

Apr. 22 - (ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, Sunday, April 22 held at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Orlando, Fla. The Tartans, hosting the two day event, shot a team score of 298 Sunday placing them in third place after the first round. Emory University currently sits in first place with a team score of 293.
Leading the championships individually through day one is freshman Mike Leibfried of New York University after carding a four under 68. The Tartans were led be sophomore Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) who finished day one with a personal best round of a two under par 70 placing him second individually through the first 18 holes.
Sophomore Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) carded a 75 for Carnegie Mellon, while junior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) shot a 76. Rounding out the Tartans scoring were freshman Christopher Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) and junior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) who fired a 77 and 84, respectively.
The second and final round of the championships will be held Monday, April 23 with the first tee time set for 7:50 a.m.
