May 22 – (NORMAN, Okla.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior golfer Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for Division III by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Smith finished the 2007 campaign with an average round of 77.7 with a school record performance of eight top ten finishes. He recorded his collegiate career low round score of par 72 at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, where he placed fifth with a two round total of 148. Smith was named first team All-UAA marking the sixth Tartan to be named to the first team in the twenty year history of the UAA.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championship, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
