Golf Places Second at the Peter Rossin Memorial Invitational

Apr. 30 - (CANONSBURG, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the final day of the Peter Rossin Memorial Invitational Monday, April 30 held at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pa. The Tartans fired a first round team score of 315 Sunday trailing host Washington & Jefferson by five strokes heading into play Monday. In the final round, Carnegie Mellon came into the clubhouse with a 320 for a two-round total of 635 placing second behind W&J, which shot 624 for the tournament.

Recently crowned individual University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion, sophomore Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) led the charge for the Tartans with a first round score of three over par 75. Timmons on Monday carded a 78 to finish second with a two-round total of 153. After shooting a ten over par 82 Sunday, junior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) carded a 75 to finish in a tie for sixth place with a 157. This marks the second straight tournament that Timmons and Smith have placed in the top ten.

Sophomore Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) placed 12th for the tournament after firing a 160 (79-81). Freshman Christopher Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) fired an 86 Monday finishing with a score of 165 for the two-day affair, while junior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) completed the Tartans scoring with a 174 (87-87).
