Carnegie Mellon Golf In 4th After Day 1 of the 2006 Griffin Motors Invitational

Sept. 24 - (MEADVILLE, Pa.) The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the 2006 Griffin Motors Invitational hosted at The Country Club of Meadville by Allegheny College. The Tartans are in fourth place following day one action after carding a team score of 310.

The Gators of Allegheny College lead after day one after carding a two over 290. Division II, Indiana University of PA fired a 302 followed by St. Vincent with a 305. Allegheny’s Blue Team is two strokes behind the Tartans after firing a 312 and Westminster College trails the Blue Team by nine with a 321.

The Tartans were led by junior Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) who carded a 75 and is a seven way tie for fourth place. Sophomore Joshua Chen (Woodridge, Conn./Amity) shot a seven over 79, while sophomore Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and freshman Christopher Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) turned in a 79. Junior Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) rounded off the Tartans scoring shooting an 80.

Day two continues tomorrow with the first groups teeing off at 9:00 a.m.
