Carnegie Mellon Golf Takes 3rd at Washington & Jefferson Invitational

Oct. 2 - (WASHINGTON, Pa.) The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team competed at the Washington & Jefferson College Fall Southpointe Men’s Golf Invitational on Sunday, October 2 and came away with a third place finish. The Tartans had a team score of 310.

The Golden Eagles of Clarion University, a Division II program, were led by Justin Moore, who claimed first place followed by the host Washington & Jefferson (308), Carnegie Mellon (310), Saint Vincent (317), Westminster (323), Seton Hill (323), La Roche (333), Thiel (348) and Pitt-Greensburg (362).

The Tartans were led by freshman Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), who tied for fifth place firing a 73. Three Tartans, senior A.J. Straub (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic), sophomore Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne), and sophomore Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) all carded a 79 placing 15th. Senior Matt Simone (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) rounded off the Tartans scoring shooting an 80 in 20th place.
