At the final day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Golf Championship, held at the Minisceongo Golf Club in Pomona, N.Y., the Carnegie Mellon University golf team placed fourth in the two day event. After firing a 309 in the opening round on Monday, the Tartans shot a 305 during the second round Tuesday to end with a combined score of 614.
After carding his collegiate career best round (68) during the opening round, senior Matt Simone (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) was crowned the UAA Individual Champion. Simone fired a 77 on day two as he ended with a two day total of 145 to win the Championship. Simone was tied with University of Rochester sophomore Stephen Goodridge at the end of the second round which sent the two into a playoff.
