Golf Takes 1st at St. Vincent Invitational

Sept. 26 - (GREENSBURG, Pa.) The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team continued their winning way finishing in 1st place at the St. Vincent College Invitational held at the Totteride Country Club Monday, September 26. The 1st place finish marks the Tartans second this season. Clarion University’s B team fired a team-score of 322 to take second place while their A team shot a 325 followed by the host school, St. Vincent, with a 335 and Seton Hill with a 338 to round out the top five.

The Tartans swept the top three individual places, as seniors Matt Simone (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and A. J. Straub (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) along with sophomore Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) all fired a 77. Simone birdied the first playoff hole to take home first place, Straub took second and Darby third.

Sophomore Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) shot an 86 while freshmen Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), rounded out the scores for the Tartans shooting an 87.
