Golf Places Second at Annual Invitational

Apr. 6 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted their Annual Invitational Thursday, April 6 at the Longue Vue Club. The Tartans placed second with a team score of 299, two strokes behind Washington & Jefferson who shot a team round of 297 to win the Invitational.

Pacing the Tartans individually was senior Matt Simone (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) carding a 74. Senior A.J. Straub (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic), sophomore Blake Darby (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) and freshman Alex Timmons (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) were three other Tartans to score, as they each shot a 75. Sophomore Howard Smith (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) shot a 76 to complete the Tartans round.

Carnegie Mellon entered a second team into the Invitational, as they placed third shooting a 320. Freshman Joshua Chen (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) headed the way for the B squad recording a 75. Senior Randahl Matsuno (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) (77), junior Aanand Radia (Dracut, Mass./Gov Dummer Academy) (79), and sophomore Denver Faulk (Ligonier, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) (89) completed the rest of the field.
