Carnegie Mellon University head football coach Rich Lackner and his staff welcomed over 100 players this past weekend as the Tartans opened preseason camp in anticipation of the 2007 campaign. Lackner returns for his twenty-second season at the helm with an overall record of 149-60-2.
The players reported on Friday, August 10 and held their first practice Sunday afternoon from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Gesling Stadium.
“We have a group of fine student-athletes who arrived at camp in great shape and are ready to go to work,” commented Lackner. “My coaches and I are excited and optimistic as we look forward to our 2007 season.”
Carnegie Mellon will open the 2007 season at the University of Rochester on Saturday, September 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Tartans home schedule begins Saturday, September 8, as the Wolverines of Grove City travel to Gesling Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. kick
Last season, the Tartans finished the campaign with an 11-1 mark. The 11 wins was a school best as they claimed their eighth University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on their way to their sixth appearance in the NCAA playoffs.
