Tartans Picked to Finish Third in UAA Race
Aug. 16 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – In the recently released University Athletic Association (UAA) preseason poll, the Carnegie Mellon Tartans have been picked to finish third in the four team association. Voting is done by the coaches without voting for their own team.
The University of Chicago and Washington (Mo.) University each received the same amount of votes and are co-favorites to win the title. The two schools have combined to win the previous eight UAA titles.
Case Western Reserve University gathered the same amount of points as the Tartans to be tied for third in the voting. In 2005, Carnegie Mellon defeated the Spartans on a last play field goal to capture the “Academic Bowl” by a 23-20 score. The teams open UAA play on October 14 in Cleveland, as Carnegie Mellon leads the series at 25-10-0. With a win, the Tartans will reach their 50th victory in 18 years of association play.
The team opens their season on the road with a 1:00 p.m. start against Hiram College on September 2.
