Sivek, Greenstein Take UAA Honors

Oct. 31 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – In addition to reclaiming the University Athletic Association (UAA) league title for the first time in nine years, two Carnegie Mellon varsity football players earned individual conference honors. For their part in the Tartans’ 10-7 overtime thriller over Washington (Mo.) University last Saturday, junior running back Travis Sivek (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) and senior kicker Nat Greenstein (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) were each named UAA Athletes of the Week for week nine of the 2006 season.

This is the second time that Greenstein has been named UAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week and the first time Sivek won the UAA Offensive Player of the Week award in 2006.

Greenstein, who is 5-for-8 in field goals this season, kicked the game-winner last week that lifted the Tartans to an 8-0 record and the UAA title. The 22-yard field goal marked the second time in Greenstein’s career that he nailed the decisive field goal against a UAA rival with no time remaining on the clock. Last season, his 41-yarder as time expired gave Carnegie Mellon a 23-20 victory over Case Western Reserve in the annual Academic Bowl.

Sivek’s 83 yards were the most yards gained by an individual back all season against a Wash U. run-defense that ranked sixth in Division III, allowing only 47 yards per game on the ground. His 2,602 career rushing yards puts him 17 yards shy of moving into second-place on the Carnegie Mellon all-time rushing list and with 139 yards over his final two games, Sivek will become the second Tartan to post 1,000 yards rushing in a season.
