Lewis and Sivek Named Preseason All-America by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette

July, 24 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Defensive back Aaron Lewis (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to the Division III Preseason 2006 All-America First Team by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette. Teammate, junior fullback, Travis Sivek (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) garnered Second Team honors.

In 2005, Lewis was named to the D3football.com All-America Second Team and the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-America Third Team. He also earned honors as First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) for the third straight year, was named to the ECAC Division III Southwest First Team and to the First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America team from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Lewis, 6-0, 210, led the UAA with 115 tackles (61 solo) and ranked second in the UAA with six interceptions. Lewis recorded double-digit tackles six times, including a career-high 22 against nationally ranked Thiel College in the season finale. He was also named UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week four times during the 2005 season and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week twice.

This marks the third 2006 preseason All-America First Team honor for Lewis. He has also been named to Street & Smith’s and d3football.com’s first teams.

Sivek, in 2005, was named to the All-UAA First Team for the second straight year and was named to the ECAC Division III Southwest First Team after being named ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2004.

The six footer led the UAA in rushing with 996 yards and in scoring (9.6 ppg) with 16 touchdowns for the second straight season. He averaged 99.6 yards per game and was named UAA Offensive Athlete of the Week and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week twice. Sivek finished 2005 second on the single season rushing list at Carnegie Mellon with 996 yards. For his career he has 1,741 yards ranking him sixth all-time and needs 1,169 yards to move into first.

Carnegie Mellon will open the 2006 season at Hiram College on Saturday, September 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
