Carnegie Mellon Defense Honored again as Lewis Receives UAA Athlete of the Week

Sept. 19 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – For the third straight week a Carnegie Mellon defensive player has been named the University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week. This week’s recipient is senior defensive back Aaron Lewis (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont), who has led a Tartan defense which has allowed just four points per game this season.

Lewis, who has caused three turnovers this year, came up with another in Saturday’s 33-6 thrashing of Westminster College. The 6-0, 210 pound DB intercepted a pass and returned it for a 20-yard touchdown, the first return for a touchdown of his career. With the Tartans ahead 9-0 and having just scored on a TD reception by Jonathan Kline (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), Lewis was set to make a tackle when the Titan wide receiver mishandled the pass and Lewis made a one-handed grab for the pick and return for six points. For the game, Lewis made six total tackles and broke up a second pass.
