Tartans Picked Second in UAA Preseason Football Poll

Aug. 12 - (ROCHESTER, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University Tartans have been picked second in the 2005 University Athletic Association football preseason poll. The Tartans last Association title came in 1997. The voting was conducted among the league's head coaches.

Washington University (MO) received three first-place votes and tallied 15 points. Washington is the four-time defending UAA champion. The Tartans, with 11 points and one first-place vote were picked to finish second. Third place went to Case Western Reserve (seven points). The University of Chicago (three) was selected to finish fourth.

The Tartans are coming off a 6-4 campaign, their 19th under head coach Rick Lackner. The Tartans will start their 10-game schedule Saturday, September 3, as they host Hiram College for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
