Carnegie Mellon Football Players, Lewis and LeBude, Earn Academic Recognition

Nov. 10 - (DELAWARE, Ohio) – A pair of Carnegie Mellon football players, junior defensive back Aaron Lewis (Englewood, OH/Northmont) and senior offensive guard Bryan LeBude (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape), earned First Team All-Region District II academic honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition. The official sponsor is ESPN the Magazine.

District II is comprised of non-NCAA Division I Colleges in the states of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. In order to be nominated a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and hold a 3.2 GPA or better.

Through nine games Lewis leads the team in tackles (93, 49 solo) and interceptions with six. He currently ranks first in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in total tackles and interceptions as well as being ranked 13th nationally in interceptions. Lewis has been named UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on three occasions (9/19, 9/26, 10/3) and named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week once (9/26). In 2004 he was named to the District II Academic All-District Second Team.

LeBude has started all nine games at guard in helping the Tartans to an average of 227.8 rushing yards per game, ranking 24th nationally. He has been part of an offensive line that has only given up 13 sacks. LeBude has helped the Tartans to a ranking of first in the UAA in scoring offense, rushing offense and sacks against.

Carnegie Mellon has an overall record of 5-4 and has secured their 31st straight non-losing season. The Tartans will play host to #18 Thiel College Saturday, November 12 for a 1:00 pm kick at Gesling Stadium.

Both Lewis and LeBude will be placed on the national ballot with the chance to be named to the ESPN the Magazine All-American Team.
