Men’s Cross Country Finishes Ninth at Nationals

Brian Harvey’s (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) twelfth place finish, the Carnegie Mellon University men’s cross country team placed ninth overall with 372 points at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by St. Olaf College on Saturday, November 17. This is the third straight year Carnegie Mellon has competed at the national championships, adding to a 12th place finish last year and an eighth place finish two years ago.
The eight kilometer race, consisting of 32 teams which qualified last weekend at eight Regional Championships, was won by UW-Platteville’s Tyler Sigl, tenth one year ago, in a time of 24:24. Fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) member New York University, runner-up one year ago, took home the team championship with 128 points and fellow Mideast Region team Haverford University finished runner-up with 150 points in the 280 runner race.
Harvey crossed the finish line in 24:57, marking the second time he has broken the 25 minute barrier. The trio of graduate student Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.), sophomore Dario Donatelli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), and junior Breck Fresen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) were the Tartans’ number two through four runners Saturday. Misek placed 91st overall with a time of 25:47, Donatelli was 108th in 25:52, and Fresen crossed the line in 129th overall with a time of 25:57.
Junior Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) finished 163rd overall in 26:09 as Carnegie Mellon’s ever-important number five runner. Freshman J.P. Allera (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and junior Mike Condon (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) also competed for the Tartans, finishing 203rd and 212th, respectively. Allera finished with a time of 26:23 and Condon crossed the line in 26:29.
