Stats
Nov. 10 – (BETHLEHEM, Pa.) – Junior
Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) won the NCAA Division III Cross Country Mideast Regional and the Carnegie Mellon men’s cross country team finished third overall in the eight kilometer race. The meet was held at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus. Haverford won the meet, finishing with 45 points, holding off Allegheny College’s 52. These two teams received automatic bids to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Carnegie Mellon finished with 71 points and will wait for the selection committee to choose the final 16 teams to qualify for the National Championship.
Harvey went out with the leaders, coming through the first mile in 4:52. He stayed neck and neck with Allegheny’s Ryan Place and Haverford’s Ian Ramsey-North throughout. Place and Ramsey-North created a small five second gap from Harvey with a quarter mile to go but Harvey’s strong finishing kick allowed him to pass both runners, with Harvey passing Place 15 meters from the finish line, finishing in a personal record of 24:44. With the title, Harvey became the first men's runner at Carnegie Mellon to win a regional meet.
Senior Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) finished second on the team and 12th overall with a personal record time of 25:11. Sophomore Dario Donatelli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and junior Breck Fresen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) finished 15th and 18th respectively in the race. Donatelli finished with a personal record of 25:15 and Fresen finished with a personal record of 25:19.
Freshman J.P. Allera (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) finished fifth on the team and 25th overall with a personal record time of 25:36 and junior Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) ran a personal record time of 25:43 en route to coming in 32nd. Junior Mike Condon (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) finished 54th overall in a time of 26:28.
The Tartans will find out tomorrow who the 32 teams are that will be competing at the National meet hosted by St. Olaf University in Northfield, Minnesota on November 17.
