Men’s Cross Country Finishes Fourth at UAA Championships

Oct. 28 - (ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The 19th ranked Carnegie Mellon men’s cross country team raced to a fourth place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship meet on Saturday, October 28. The #3 ranked NYU Violets placed seven runners in the top 20 to win the team title with 25 points overall. Carnegie Mellon finished with 104 points while host #28 Washington (Mo.) University and Brandeis tied for second with 86 points apiece.
The 78-runner meet was held in Forest Park located in the heart of St. Louis. Sophomore Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) paced the team as he covered the eight kilometer course in 25:39.74 en route to finishing fifth overall. Sophomore Breck Fresen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) crossed the line in 26:12.32, good for 13th place.
Freshman Dario Donatelli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and senior Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) were the Tartans’ third and fourth runners respectively. Donatelli (26:35.20) finished 27th overall and Misek (26:35.47) came across the line in 28th.
Junior Jason Jura (Forrest Hill, Md./Dulaney) was Carnegie Mellon’s fifth man coming in 34th with a time of 26:47.13. Sophomores Mike Haley (North Hills, Pa.) and Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) rounded out the top seven on Saturday. Haley (36th) ran 26:51.20 and Anderson (41st) finished in 26:56.45.
The Carnegie Mellon men’s team will be in action again on Saturday, November 11th when they race at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pa. The top teams from the regional advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Wilmington College at Voice of America Park in Wilmington, Ohio on Saturday, November 18th.
