Men’s Cross Country Wins Home Invitational

Oct. 14 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Sophomore Brian Harvey (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) won the eight kilometer race and the Carnegie Mellon men’s cross country team placed nine runners under 27 minutes en route to taking home the team title at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Schenley Park on Saturday, October 14. The Tartans, ranked #24 in Division III, finished with 43 points, edging Mount Union’s 55.
Harvey won his second straight race, covering the hilly course in a personal best time of 25:41.51. Senior Geoff Misek (Goodrich, Mich.) took third overall in the 220 runner race with a season best time of 26:11.09.
Sophomore Breck Fresen (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) and freshman Dario Donatelli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) were the Tartans’ number three and four runners respectively. Fresen (ninth) finished in 26:23.88 and Donatelli (10th) crossed the line in 26:24.32. Junior Jason Jura (Forrest Hill, Md./Dulaney) was Carnegie Mellon’s number five runner and ran a personal best time of 26:41.55 en route to finishing 20th overall.
Junior Mark Tressler (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) and sophomore Ryan Anderson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) rounded out the top seven for the Tartans, finishing 25th and 26th respectively. Tressler ran a personal best time of 26:51.10 and Anderson also set a personal best in running 26:51.46.
Sophomore Bill Lordan (Paoli, Pa./Great Valley) and freshman Sean Hamilton (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) both broke 27 minutes for the first time en route to coming eighth and ninth on the team. Lordan (26:56.41) finished 30th and Hamilton (26:56.7) placed 31st.
The next race for the Carnegie Mellon men’s cross country team is the University Athletic Association (UAA) Conference Championships in two weeks. The race is held at Washington (Mo.) University this year. The Tartans will look to duplicate last year’s performance and win the UAA again.
