Jan. 10 – (CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Greg Gonzalez (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for his performance in leading Carnegie Mellon to a 2-0 record over the break.

Gonzalez recorded a pair of double-doubles this past week in guiding the Tartans to two impressive road wins in the midst of their five game winning streak.  He averaged 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, and went a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line.

In his first double-double performance, he scored 14 points (4-for-4 free-throw shooting) and hauled in 12 rebounds in a 76-63 road win over La Roche College, then tallied a career-high 21 points, shooting 64 percent from the field and making all six free-throw attempts while grabbing 10 rebounds, in a 65-57 triumph over Juniata College.

The fifth year senior had four block shots in the two games giving him 107 for his career moving him into third place on the school’s all-time list.

Gonzalez shares the honor this week with Albert Medoro from Albright College.
