Men’s Basketball Earns Spot in ECAC South Field

Mar. 3 – (CENTREVILLE, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team was named to the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Tournament field as announced Monday, March 3. The Tartans will enter the eight team tournament as the second seed and will host Grove City, Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m.
The Tartans finished the 2007-2008 regular season with a 16-9 record defeating three teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the Misericordia / Juniata contest at the highest remaining seed's home court Saturday, March 8. The championship game will be played on Sunday.

Ryan Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) leads the Tartans with 15.6 points per game followed by senior
Greg Gonzalez’s (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) 13.2 points. Gonzalez finished the regular season leading the University Athletic Association (UAA) in two offensive categories after hauling in 9.6 rebounds and rejecting 1.8 shots per game. Senior
Geoff Kozak (Huntingdon, Pa.) leads the team with 89 assists and 42 steals while averaging 10.6 points.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Tartans have made postseason play. During the 2005 and 2007 campaigns the Cardinal and Gray competed in the ECAC South Championships. In 2006 Carnegie Mellon participated in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
