Men’s Basketball Ranked #24 in Nation by D3hoops.com

Jan. 15 – (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men’s basketball team enters the D3hoops.com top-25 in week seven for the first time this season at 24th.  This marks the first top-25 ranking since the 2005-2006 season.  The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.

The Tartans are off to their third best start in the programs history with a 10-2 overall mark, in the midst of a seven game winning streak. The current winning streak is the third longest in school history, as the 2004-05 and 05-06 squads won ten straight and started the year 12-2 and 10-0, respectively.

Carnegie Mellon is led by junior Ryan Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) who is averaging 16.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game followed by sophomore Jack Anderson (Beaver Falls, Pa.), who has been sidelined the past three games with an ankle injury, averaging 12.1 points per game.  Seniors Greg Gonzalez (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and Geoff Kozak (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) are averaging 11.3 and 11.1 points per game apiece.  Gonzalez leads the team hauling in 8.7 rebounds per game and recording 22 blocks, while Kozak leads the team in assists (45) and steals (20).

Carnegie Mellon has a 0-1 mark in the high powered University Athletic Association (UAA) with their loss coming at the hands of the top ranked team in the nation, the University of Rochester.

The Tartans will look to even their UAA mark on Friday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m., as they entertain the second ranked Judges of Brandeis University in Skibo Gymnasium.
