Men’s Basketball Lands Two on the All-UAA Team

Greg Gonzalez (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and junior
Ryan Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Team by the league’s coaches when the Association announced its postseason All-Star teams Wednesday, March 5. Gonzalez found a spot on the Association’s first team, as Einwag was named to the second team.
Gonzalez led the UAA in two offensive categories after hauling in 9.6 rebounds and rejecting 1.8 shots per game. He finished the regular season second on the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game. Gonzalez recorded his 500th career rebound against Case Western Reserve University, a game that he hauled in a career-high 21 boards. He scored in double figures in 18 of the Tartans 25 games, including the last twelve and scored a career-high 25 points at Case Western Reserve. The fifth year senior has tallied nine double-doubles and ranks second on the school’s all-time block chart with 133. He was named UAA Athlete of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week twice this season, as well as to the national D3hoops.com Team of the Week once.
Einwag led the team in scoring and field goal percentage in the regular season for the second straight season averaging 15.6 points per contest while shooting 48.3% from the floor. He scored in double figures in 22 of the Tartans 25 games, including five 20 or more outings and a season-high 30 points at Case Western Reserve. The junior finished the 2007-2008 campaign ranked fifth in the UAA in scoring. This marks Einwag’s second appearance on the Association’s second team after being named to it following his sophomore season.
Gonzalez becomes the eighth player to be named to the UAA First Team from Carnegie Mellon since the formation of the league 21 years ago. Nate Maurer and Clayton Barlow-Wilcox earned first team honors in back-to-back seasons from 2004-06.
